Work In Desert Area

All employees working in desert locations should know the following safety policies of work in desert:

  1. Understanding the Weather Conditions: All employees must be prepared for desert weather conditions and temperature. Supervisors must inform employees of desert hazards during winter (i.e low temperature and high winds, low visibility) and summer (i.e extreme heat of 55″ C or higher, heat stress, and high winds). Proper clothing and personal protective equipment should be used to prevent heat stress and other weather-related illnesses.
  2. Driving Safely: Before driving in the desert, vehicles should be inspected, and equipment for travelling in the desert should be obtained. High wind is a constant hazard, especially due to poor visibility and the potential of eye injuries. All drivers must drive slowly, and all employees must have eye protection in use to prevent eye injuries from sand and debris.
  3. Dealing with Desert Animals, Reptiles, and Insects: There are potential dangers from desert animals, reptiles, and insects. Employees should avoid handling or catching these creatures and seek immediate assistance if bitten or stung. First aid measures should be taken as per the instructions provided by the doctor or paramedic.
  4. Explosive Ordnance Safety Rules: Employees must be aware of explosive ordnance safety rules and report any suspicious items to their supervisor immediately.

Additional Tips:

  1. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  2. Take frequent breaks in shaded areas.
  3. Use sunscreen with a high SPF to prevent sunburn.
  4. Keep a first aid kit and emergency contact information readily available.

Conclusion: By following these safety measures, employees can stay safe while working in the desert environment. Safety is everyone’s responsibility, and we must work together to prevent accidents and injuries. Stay vigilant, and report any potential hazards to your supervisor immediately.
